There is something that has been bothering me, when I +1 an item in Google Reader I want to +1 the original URL of the article. But some feed items have tracking URLs like “http://feedproxy.google.com/…” which FeedBurner uses for tracking clicks.
So, when we +1 an item with a tracking URL, we are not +1ing the original URL. This means there are separate +1 counts, one for the actual URL(plus ones from website) and another for feed item(plus ones from Google Reader), and if I’m not mistaken it results in separate search impacts.
And it’s not just FeedBurner and its feedproxy, there are other services too. So, what can be done?
What webmasters can do
If you own a website and click tracking is not important to you, disable it! By going to FeedBurner’s Analyze tab and unchecking “Item link clicks” in “Configure Stats”.
What Google can do
Google Reader should add the original URL of feed item as a “Permalink” button and use the permalink for +1ing and sharing the item.
